Specialised Care
While we describe this area of support as ‘specialised care’, we recognise that when care is truly person-centred, these supports are simply part of meeting an individual’s unique needs, preferences, abilities, and circumstances. Often, these needs arise as part of advancing age, living with a disability, changes in health, cognitive changes, or evolving support requirements over time.
At North Dublin Home Care, we believe every person should continue to be seen first and foremost as an individual, and not as a diagnosis or condition. Our approach focuses on understanding the person, their life story, routines, strengths, interests, communication style, relationships, and what matters most to them.
We provide compassionate, relationship-based support for people living with:
- dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
- mental health challenges
- physical disabilities
- sensory impairments
- complex or additional support needs
- long-term or progressive health conditions
Our Home Support Workers are trained to provide support that promotes dignity, reassurance, familiarity, emotional wellbeing, and independence wherever possible. We understand that changes in memory, communication, mobility, confidence, or health can affect not only the individual, but also families and loved ones, which is why we aim to provide compassionate and consistent support for everyone involved.
Building trusting relationships is central to our approach. Taking time to understand the person and moving at their pace can help reduce anxiety, promote confidence, and create a sense of safety and familiarity within the home environment. We focus on supporting what people can continue to do for themselves, using a strengths-based approach that values choice, inclusion, and quality of life.
Support may include:
- assistance with daily routines and personal care
- emotional reassurance and companionship
- cognitive stimulation and meaningful activities
- mobility and safety support
- support with communication and orientation
- respite and reassurance for family carers
- collaborative working with families and healthcare professionals
We also recognise the importance of community connection and inclusion for people living with dementia or additional support needs. Through initiatives such as our Dementia Café, training programmes, and inclusive community activities, we aim to support not only the individual, but also the wider network of families, carers, and communities around them.
Our goal is to help people remain supported, valued, connected, and as independent as possible within the comfort and familiarity of their own homes and communities.
